THE COTTAGE HOUSE AT VENTANA BIG SUR

Continuing the Ventana experience, next I went to the upgraded “The Cottage House” at Ventana where we stayed at the end of October 2020. It is the farthest from the social house and the reception, but it only about a 5-minute walk away.

The luggage I dropped off at arrival had already been delivered to the front of the room.

There was also a sticker on the door that tells you that no one has entered the room after cleaning. COVID-19 measures are taken firmly here as well.

According to the explanation on the homepage, the room is 67 square meters. There is no partition between the living room and the bedroom. There is a desk in front of you when you enter the room.

There are 3 souvenirs on the desk for 2 people with an explanation of the significance of each item.

There is a minibar on the left side of the room.

The room had Nespresso, but I didn’t use it because I had coffee at the restaurant at breakfast and then drank either the sparkling water provided or drinks I brought with me.

The hotel provides an environmentally friendly water bottle for use throughout the resort and there are several water stations stationed around the grounds. I checked with the hotel staff and it seems that this bottle is provided to guests as a souvenir as well.

Drinks are provided in the refrigerator, which these days is unusual for an American hotel. It seems that this is also free except for alcohol, but our refrigerator did not contain any alcohol … but there was a cream for the Nespresso!

All snacks provided were also part of the inclusive package. However, I was always full, so I didn’t touch anything. Disinfectants and masks were also available in response to COVID.

Next to the minibar is the hallway that leads to the toilet, closet, and bathroom.

The closet is large enough with a safe, bathrobes and even an umbrella.

There is a window in the toilet that provides a lot of natural light to what would otherwise be a very dark room.

The sink was a double sink.

Bath amenities were also provided.

At first I couldn’t find the hairdryer, but it was in the drawer.

The bathtub was big enough for two people to use at the same time. Since there was a jacuzzi on the balcony, I never used the bathtub.

The shower was a rain shower, but the water pressure was weak.

Shampoo, conditioner, body soap and bar soap seem to be original to the hotel. It has a refreshing scent of rosemary and mint, but the soap contains rough grains, so it may be a problem for those with sensitive skin.

As you may have noticed, the hotel logo is everywhere. Branding is amazing … from room keys to soap molds and soap saucers.

Looking from the shower to the toilet is pictured below. There is a feeling of cleanliness and it seems very relaxing.

Moving from the bathroom to the main area of the room… the floor of the room is original, so it seems that it has been used since 1975, although it has been maintained well.

The bed was soft and I felt a little like I was sinking, but I didn’t hurt my back. The linens were nice to the touch.

The phone beside the bed was old fashioned. I thought it was a decoration, but I was able to contact room service using it.

Looking over the entire room from the side of the bed, it feels very spacious.

Opposite the bed, there was a fireplace and two comfortable chairs, and at night I lit the wood-burning fireplace using ready-to-light wood provided in the room and really enjoyed the atmosphere.

The balcony is huge at 55 square meters.

There is also a hammock, which looks good for taking a nap.

To have a jacuzzi on the balcony was a luxurious feature that we were able to use.

You can see the magnificent forest from the balcony. Since it is far from the road, it was quiet and it was a relaxing time to hear the sound of woodpecker poking in the daytime.

This is the floor map of The Cottage House from the hotel homepage.

According to the hotel staff, although this room doesn’t have an ocean view, it is far from other rooms, quiet, has a jacuzzi and hammock, and they recommend it. Some guests seem to request an ocean view, but once they see this room, everyone seems to like it.

It doesn’t have the size, flashiness, and luxury of over 100 square meters like the top suites of luxury hotels, but I feel that it is very comfortable and I highly recommend it.
